KWIKSET® LEADS SMART LOCK CATEGORY, EXPANDING KEVO PLATFORM WITH REMOTE ACCESS SERVICE UPGRADE

Kwikset Provides Sneak Peek at New Smart Lock Products During New York Pepcom Event

NEW YORK (September 29, 2014) – Kwikset, the leader in residential door hardware, commands the smart lock category with its suite of award-winning and technology-focused products, including its Bluetooth-enabled Kevo™ smart lock, new Kevo™ Remote Access Service and new SmartCode™ 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt.

Kwikset has proven success in introducing industry-first, consumer-focused smart locks to the market, as shown with its one-of-a-kind Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt, Kevo. Kwikset’s latest innovations, the Kevo Remote Access Service and SmartCode 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt, were inspired by Kwikset’s continued commitment to listening to consumer insight and feedback in order to develop technology that works in homeowners’ everyday lives.

“Kwikset is an established name in residential lock sets. Through years of experience, we understand the market and consumer behavior,” says Keith Brandon, director, residential access solutions. “We use our expertise to bring secure innovations to consumers, meeting unmet needs with new, first-to-market technologies.”

Kevo™

The award-winning Bluetooth-enabled Kevo deadbolt allows for an entirely new interface for keys. The Kevo mobile app turns a smartphone into an electronic key (eKey) and allows the deadbolt to recognize and respond quickly to the touch of a finger. The Kevo app communicates seamlessly in the background of the smartphone. Kevo’s introduction to the market affirmed Kwikset as the first major manufacturer to deliver a sophisticated consumer-focused smart lock.

Kwikset continues to improve the Kevo experience by listening to key consumer cues. Recently, Kwikset released a software upgrade for Kevo, giving users the ability to send free and unlimited Guest electronic keys (eKeys) to recipients. The update also allows users to send Scheduled eKeys with day and time constraints for regular houseguests like babysitters, dog-walkers and contractors.

Kevo Features Include:

  • Touch-to-Open Technology
  • Positioning Technology
  • eKey User Management
  • Two Anytime or Scheduled eKeys
  • Unlimited Guest eKeys
  • 30-day Activity Monitoring
  • Patented SmartKey® Deadbolt Security Technology

Kevo™ Remote Access Service

New for 2015, the Kevo remote access service adds greater flexibility and customization to Kevo not achieved through the standalone product. The remote access service answers the number one consumer request for remote locking and unlocking capabilities. Existing Kevo owners can upgrade service as a supplement to the current Kevo experience. The simple transition to remote access service allows customers to enhance their door lock and security features by connecting to a cloud based service.

Service Upgrade Features Include:

  • Remote Locking and Unlocking
  • Unlimited Activity Monitoring
  • Event Scheduling
  • Lock Grouping
  • Unlimited eKeys
  • Standard Kevo Features (listed above)
Kevo™ Smart Phone Compatibility

Kevo is compatible with smartphones that support Bluetooth Smart Ready/Bluetooth 4.0 and have the Kevo mobile app installed. The app is currently available for iPhone® 4S, 5, 5c, and 5s, as well as the fifth generation iPod® touch, third generation or higher iPad® and iPad mini.

Kwikset anticipates the release of Android L in Fall 2014, which will fully support Bluetooth Smart. When the Android OS update is released, Kwikset will deliver an Android app for Kevo shortly thereafter.

SmartCode™ 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt

Kwikset’s new SmartCode Touchscreen Deadbolt provides total security with the convenience and enhanced aesthetics of a capacitive touchscreen. The Touchscreen Deadbolt utilizes SecureScreen™, a unique feature that helps mask “smudge” attacks, or the ability to jeopardize passcodes by detecting the oily residue from fingers left on the touchscreen surface. When SecureScreen is activated, two random numbers will appear on the screen, which the user must touch in order to display the full screen to enter the access code. The increased usage of the touchscreen surface masks the correct numbers that are used for user access codes.

SmartCode 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt Features Include:

  • SecureScreen™
  • One-Touch Programming
  • Ability to Hold up to 30 Access Codes
  • One-Touch Locking
  • Sleek Design
  • Reduced Interior Size for Increased Aesthetic Appeal
  • SmartKey® Re-Key Technology
  • BumpGuard™ Technology
SmartCode 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt will be available for purchase in the professional channel in November 2014. For additional information about SmartCode 916 Touchscreen Deadbolt, please visit http://www.kwikset.com/electronics/homeowners/smartcode-916.aspx.
